22BE Club Ziegelstr. 23 Hip Hop, Reggae On any given Friday or Saturday night, the line to get into
2BE (sometimes a half-block long) is a clear sign that
this place is legit. Once you get through security, there
is a solid, energetic buzz inside, which has two sizable
dance floors with big name DJs blasting what’s usually
hip hop and reggae. Also, importantly, it’s easy
to escape the busy dance floors to a more mellow place,
whether it be in the hallway or outside in the courtyard
- not always possible in other clubs. Ziegelstr. 23, Mitte.

Sundays and Mondays are popular with tourists, so if you fancy something a bit more ‘local’ perhaps try a different night. With reasonable entry prices (€3-€5) and drinks prices, this is a really good place for a fun night out.

size and popularity. Two bars, two dance floors. The expansive

Club der Polnischen Versager Torstrasse 66 Cosy mismatched couches, overflowing bookshelves, and groups of artsy Berliners casually chatting and reading magazines before and after performances give The Club for Polish Losers a living room-like feel. FFire Club Veteranenstraße 21 Set on the second floor of the recently renovated Acud, this late-night club is kitschy and grungy in a way that embodies Berlin’s underground night scene. 1960’s wall paper, beat up leather couches, Christmas lights and faded paintings line a good-sized dance floor. Fire plays everything from swing to Latin music to electronica, and when you get tired of dancing, you can grab a reasonably priced drink (beers from €2,00, mixed drinks from €4,00), cuddle up on the zebra-print love nest, and watch a fire crackling on a TV set.
Frannz Kulturbrauerei Mixed Based in the vibrant Kulturbrauerei in Prenzlauerberg, Frannz club has a mixture of different music nights throughout the week. Fritzclub (in Postbahnhof) Straße der Pariser Kommune (oppo Mixed, Electronica, Rock/Indie/Alternative Located in an old postal railway station (hence the name), this is
the `abandoned warehouse party in Berlin' that you don't want
to miss. Big international acts play pretty regularly during the
week, so it's worth keeping an eye on who's coming to visit. If
you just want to go along unplanned, the weekend parties heave
with the young and beautiful. The music selection is mixed -
from electro across to rock - and with a door charge of €6
(cheaper on Fridays for students) you can't really go wrong.
From 11pm on Saturday night, Fritzclub expands to three DJs on
three floors to give you plenty of room to shake your bonbons.
Should the music not be to your taste, then a separate bar area
allows you to speak to that pretty girl with the funky fringe.

to the legendary “Russian Disco,” a night of
Russian punk and ska music (every other Saturday night).
Burger also regularly hosts live music as well as DJs playing
everything from folk to reggae to country to indie. (Sunday
is a great night for music – The Rolling Stones,
Bob Marley, Pixies, White Stripes, etc.) The place was
established by Vladimir Kaminer, a Russian immigrant to
Berlin, now a famous author who still finds time to DJ.
The staff is really nice. Subject to crowds. Torstr. 60,

Kalkscheune Johannisstraße 2 (Cnr Kalkscheun Live Music More of a cultural center than a constantly humming
club, Kalkscheune caters to the more discerning Berlin
music-scenester. Bands and performing artists here are
particularly varied, performing almost every night of the
week (Tix start from €6 for the parties, slightly more for
the performances). A building with a great history - built
in 1831 as an industrial factory, the top level was taken
over by the Stasi in GDR times and used to spy on
visiting international delegates who were always forced
to stay in a hotel across the road!!

MMaria am Ostbahnhof Stralauer Platz 34/35 Rock/Indie/Alternative, Electronica, Live Music Nestled beside the River Spree and a stone's throw from Ostbahnhof train station, this club and live-music venue is well respected in Berlin for its impressive lineup of international acts, usually electronic. Maria is opposite the Ibis Hotel in what looks like an abandoned spray-paint abused building, but the interior is large, funky and full of bars and dance floors. Some advice: try to show up with an equal number of men and women. Stralauer Platz 34-35, Friedrichshain. S3, S7, S75, S5, S9 Ostbahnhof.

Matrix Warschauer Platz 18 Mixed This large, bustling nightclub boasts a booming sound system
and a young crowd. Three dance floors. Music differs from
night to night. Sometimes it’s rock night, in which
case each dance floor features a particular genre of rock,
like 60s stuff or metal. Other times it’s just good
dance music, everything from reggae-ragga to R&B. The
industrial stone and brick arches of the train tracks above
compliment the otherwise colorful atmosphere. There are
often great cocktail specials, especially for women. Check
out the computerized drink system – and the go-go
dancers. Warschauer Platz 18, Friedrichshain. S3, S7, S5,

MUDD Club Große Hamburger Str. 17 Rock/Indie/Alternative This nightclub was created by the same man who launched the
famous MUDD Club in New York City, which hosted “punk” bands
like John Cale and the Talking Heads back in the late 1970s
and early 80s – an important era for music. The Berlin
MUDD of today offers a huge variety of music: surprisingly
well known indie rock bands, local punk bands, dance music,
and “Balkan beats” DJ parties (recommended).
Intimate but comfortable, with two dance floors, this place
feels like you’ve walked into a hip underground club.
To reach MUDD, walk through the courtyard set back from
the road. Große Hamburger Str. 17, Mitte. S5, S7,

Pulp Mansion Backfabrik, Saarbrücker Str. 36a Electronica, Techno, House Electronica and techno music in a terrifically gritty industrial space. Located on a street of turn-of-the-century warehouses, Pulp mansion is hidden in the back courtyard of a converted bread factory, and rusted pipes, metal beams, and white brick ceilings and walls give its dance floors a terrific underground feel typical among good Berlin clubs. You can dance to power beats in a strobe-lit room rung with deep white couches, or head to a crimson-lit floor to enjoy minimalist Berlin techno. Graphic videos, designed for PM by an artist who freelances with MTV, give the club extra energy, and with a wide variety of music, mixed, laid back crowd, and dance floors open until noon, this club is a place that any style of clubber can enjoy.

RRaumklang Libauer Str. 1 Underground If you want a seriously underground clubbing experience in
Berlin you have to get to Raumklang - late. The bar looks like it
has just moved in for the night, but the speaker system here has
to be permanent – a more penetrating sound experience cannot
be had anywhere. Musically, Raumklang specialises in electronic
music for a largely Berlin audience. A comfy chill-out area
around the bar allows you to restock on required fluids. Open
Thursday to Saturday for over 21s only – gay friendly. Libauer

ROCK-IT Obentraustr. 19/21 Rock/Indie/Alternative Berlin's premiere rock party opened a new location in 2006 to rave reviews. It's only open every Tuesday and Thursday night, and serves as a party venue for anyone looking for more than techno and R&B. A perfect ratio of men and women fills the dance floor and chill-out lounge. It's hard to find, which thins out the masses. It'S a good place to meet people who are actually from Berlin. It'S also the end of the New Berlin Pub Crawl, when it's open. €5 entrance (incl. for the New Berlin Pub Crawl). Obentraustr. 19/21, Kreuzberg. U6, U7 Mehringdamm.

to the Sage Hospital in Senegal in West Africa. (Now that’s
cool.) This place is very Berlin, so don’t act like
a typical tourist at the door, and don’t show up
drunk. Köpenicker Str. 78, Mitte. U8 Heinrich-Heine-Str.
The entrance is by the steps to the station.
SO36 Oranienstr.190 Gay, Mixed One of Berlin’s most famous clubs – host to live

TThe Yorckschlösschen Yorckstr. 15 Jazz There is one house law, posted boldly on the wall, which
every guest at this jazz club must abide by: “Be
nice or leave.” Management certainly complies, for
the Yorckschlösschen offers free live music (good
quality live music) most nights of the week. This place
has a great vibe. Musicians mingle with visitors. Jazz
and blues memorabilia (including photos of artists past
and present) plaster the walls. Hang out at the friendly
bar, enjoy a delicious meal, shoot some pool, and listen
to great music. The Yorckschlösschen is our favorite
Kreuzberg jazz club! Yorckstr. 15, Kreuzberg. U6, U7 Mehringdamm.

The music varies, but generally a lot of electronica spun
by top Berlin and internationally recognized DJs. Falckensteinstr.
